SANITARY STRAINERS

Sanitary strainers are essential equipment of use in the dairy, food, meat and poultry, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Ideally you need to choose a sanitary strainer that can provide versatile, cost effective filtration, with maximum application flexibility. In addition the sanitary strainer of choice should accept a wide range of disposable filters and reusable strainer media, that will enhance product quality and sanitation, while protecting equipment such as homogenizers, meters, spray nozzles, needle valves and pumps.

It may be important for you to consider how to deal with heavier contaminant loading or to reduce pressure loss with finer screens or high viscosity fluids. In this case an oversize basket may be the answer to the challenge. Also you will need to know whether your sanitary filter or strainer allows fast and easy take down, assembly and cleaning. The style and configuration of your sanitary strainer is another consideration. Do you need a short or long model, with floor mount stands or wall brackets? Does your sanitary strainer have several interchangeable parts for minimizing maintenance and inventory requirements? It may even be necessary for you to consider whether you need to have two or more units to be installed in parallel with bypass valves gauges or switches that will enable continuous system operation when one of your units must be cleaned or serviced.

Typically a sanitary strainer will be used for removing larger particles, whereas a filter will provide a means of removing fine particles from liquid. However the filtering medium must be removed and either cleaned or disposed of periodically. Most filters or strainers are designed primarily for removal of particles of various sizes from a product. They are not intended to remove odors or impurities. The actual performance data related to a given sanitary strainer would depend upon the line pressure, and size and amount of particles in the product.
